Secretary of State Paul Pate is guided by three core principles:  service, participation and integrity.

Sec. Pate is serving his 2nd term as Iowa's Commissioner of Elections.  He served in the  State Senate for 6 years beginning in 1989. He also served as Sec. of State in 1994.  In 2001, Cedar Rapids elected Pate to serve as their mayor.  During that tenure he was President of the Iowa League of Cities.  Sec. Pate was recently elected to the Executive Board of the National Assn. of Secretary's of State and serves as Vice President for the Midwestern Region.

Paul is also a nationally recognized small business leader, a father of three and grandfather of five.  He and his wife of 38 years live in Cedar Rapids.
